WHY are the lights dimmed during airplane takeoff

 

The reason for this is to get the passengers' eyes used to the darkness, not for comfort but for safety reasons. 

 

If the passengers have to be evacuated immediately, their eyes will be better prepared for the darkness outside 🛫
